• Due to the nature of the fabric the velvet ribbons do fray slightly at the edges, if a crisper finish is required any loose bits can easily be trimmed off

* Elizabeth Blackwell (b. 1821) was born in Bristol but her family emigrated to America when she was a girl. After her father's death Elizabeth wanted to become a doctor. She faced great opposition but eventually she did gain a place and became the first woman in America to receive a medical degree. In 1869 she returned to live in Britain where she campaigned for women to have the right to train as medical professionals.
